Apollonia (Apollonia) is the largest ancient Greek port. It was founded back in 588 BC by settlers from Corinth and Corfu. Apollonia is located in the country of the Illyrian tribe of talent, on the right bank of the river Aoi (in our time is the name of the river Vjosa). Apollonia is located about 10 kilometers from the confluence Vjosa the Adriatic Sea.
Apollonia is situated at the western end of the ancient Roman road, called Egnatievoy road. This ancient city was a major trading center and fortress. Aristotle cited as an example of Apollonius oligarchic regime! Here the descendants of Greek settlers were holding in their hands the management of Apollo, at the time, as the city has been inhabited for the most part Illyrians. It should be noted that Apollo had minted its own coins, and even sold abroad Illyrian slaves. Already at the end of the ancient period of history, much of Apollonius was empty because of what is happening here swamping areas. Apollonia residents gradually began to move to the nearby town of Vlora.
In the time of the arrival of Christianity to the land, the city became the center of the diocese of the same name. In the late third and early fourth centuries in Apollonia suffered for the faith Isaurian, which subsequently listed as a saint.
The first archaeological research at Apollonia began during the First World War, when the country was occupied by Austria. After World War II archaeological investigations are carried out the French. Apollonia found the remains of a temple VI century BC, the ruins of the Theatre, opened spacious cobbled streets, amazing mosaic floors. Most items from Apollonia is now on display in Tirana - Albanian capital.
Quite a number of years, excavations in the Valley of the Drin River in the south of Albania, located Antigoneia (Antigonea). Excavations carried out literally next to the modern Gjirokastra. Even Stephen Byzantine city Bilis mentioned as a famous seaside town (which was wrongly) in Illyria. According to one legend, founded the city Mirmidonyane, who lived near the town of Neoptolemus, when they returned home after the Trojan War. However, this legend is partially confirmed by numismatics.
Bilis is mentioned in the middle of the IV century BC descriptions Skilaka Kariandskogo geographer, as well as requests to the oracle of Dodona. The request was, to which of the gods should make the sacrifice to ensure the safety of urban lands.
The city Bilis, which was the Greek-speaking city on the border of Illyria and Epirus, and was the stadium, and its own theater. The main scientific hypothesis is that Bilis was founded by Greek settlers, although the fact that the city had a mixed population, evidenced by the numerous Illyrian names of the officials. The city Bilis, as in many of the Greek metropolis of the time, its own coinage.
Bilisa walls were a length of about 2200 meters, and located on a hill 525 meters above sea level! Here, too, there were six gates in the city walls of the city. Ancient Greek way, marching from Apollonia, reached Bilisa.

The history of the city is very ancient: according to tradition Himara was built by the Greeks of the Byzantine Empire, the territory of the then Northern Epirus. This event is known in numerous archaeological excavations taking place in Himara, and from the words of the Byzantine author Procopius of Caesarea, which mentions city Himara (Greek: Χειμάρρα).

The village is built on a hillside Tseraunian (Ceraunian), which is about 200 meters in height. Mountains descend to the south-west coast of Corfu and the Ionian to the south of the dermis. Nearby is the village of Palace (Palase). Recently, in the coastal zone Dhermi seen a boom in housing construction. The most popular uses, construction of wooden villa complex.
